Black Adam, sometimes known as Teth-Adam or Theo Adam, is a fictional character that appears in DC Comics’ American comic books. Otto Binder and C. C. Beck developed the character, and it made its debut in December 1945’s inaugural issue of Fawcett Comics’ The Marvel Family comic book. Black Adam has been one of the archenemies of the superhero Captain Marvel / Shazam and the Marvel Family (also known as the Shazam Family) since DC Comics licenced and purchased Fawcett’s characters in the 1970s, with Doctor Sivana and Mister Mind.
The character’s prominence in the DC Universe has increased thanks to featured roles in comic book series like Justice Society of America, Villains United, Infinite Crisis, and 52. This prominence peaked with DC’s 2021 line-wide Infinite Frontier relaunch, which saw the character—now known as Tethon/The Mighty Adam—join the Justice League. Black Adam was rated as the 16th best comic book villain of all time by IGN in 2009. The following are three of the best Black Adam comic books to check out.
1. When World War III broke out, it was Black Adam vs the world.
The worst act committed by Black Adam was the massacre of the defenceless Bialyans. By authors John Ostrander and Keith Champagne, as well as by visual artists Tom Derenick and Norm Rapmund, this incident sparked the third world war. The world’s superheroes get together to fight the out-of-control Black Adam after he massacres the people of Bialya.
2. Black Adam is pitted against his most dreadful enemies in JSA: Black Vengeance.
Black Adam has faced many terrifying foes, but in JSA: Black Vengeance by Geoff Johns and Don Kramer, he faced his toughest opponent yet. Eclipso and the hostless Spectre invaded Kahndaq in retaliation for Adam’s alliance with Alexander Montez. Atom Smasher asks the JSA for assistance after Adam and his soldiers are defeated. Black Reign, which concluded with a victorious Black Adam, is followed by Black Vengeance. With Adam’s power base being destroyed as a result of his earlier deeds, Black Vengeance takes a completely different turn. It’s an exciting adventure and a great book to read.
3. Black Adam’s Rise and Fall covered in 52.
The weekly comic book series, which was written in the year following Infinite Crisis by Geoff Johns, Mark Waid, Greg Rucka, and Grant Morrison with art breakdowns by Keith Giffen and pencils by other outstanding artists, followed a number of heroes. In this time, Black Adam made the decision to step up his efforts to become a hero. Black Adam develops his own Black Marvel Family, falls in love, and rises to even greater prominence. Unfortunatelly, his adversaries opt to make a fool of him by razing everything he has created.
