Amazon Prime Video produced a drama series based on Louise Penny’s best-selling Chief Inspector Armand Gamache mystery book series.

Three Pines will be eight one-hour episodes filmed in Montreal and rural Quebec starring Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache.

The Eastern Townships and the town of Three Pines is where the majority of the series is situated and will revolve around Gamache.

The majority of Penny’s murder mysteries are cosy whodunits, steeped in Canadian history and populated by an oddball cast of locals. Three Pines also “interweaves a dark, enigmatic, serial-story, which reveals police shortcomings to properly investigate cases of missing Indigenous women, as well as corruption at the core of the provincial Sûreté du Québec police department,” according to the official description of the television show. As part of Gamache’s investigative team, Molina co-stars with Rossif Sutherland, Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, and Sarah Booth.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) employed Penny in her first job as a radio announcer. Following her switch to writing, she received several accolades for her work, including five Agatha Awards for best mystery book of the year, including four straight years (2007–2010), and five Anthony Awards for best novel of the year, including four straight years (2010–2013). Her books have been translated into 23 different languages.
