Marvel Comics has announced the launch of a new imprint exclusively dedicated to the properties of 20th Century Studios.
Planet Of The Apes, Alien and Predator
This new line will feature a Planet of the Apes comic, created by writer David F. Walker, artist David Wachter, and cover artist Joshua Cassara.
Additionally, the imprint will include comics based on the popular Alien and Predator franchises.
Editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski stated that Marvel had hoped to create a unique space within their comics line for these iconic properties, and the collaboration with 20th Century Studios was the perfect opportunity to do so.
With the launch of this new imprint, Marvel intends to expand on these beloved franchises and create even bigger and bolder stories for fans to enjoy in the coming months.
Disney’s Acquisition of 20th Century’s Properties
Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century’s properties three years ago, classic franchises like Apes, Aliens, and Predator were brought under the same roof as Marvel’s Captain America, X-Men, and Iron Man.
Marvel has since placed a renewed focus on these properties, releasing a new Aliens comic in 2021 and a Predator book in 2022.
The new 20th Century Studios branding will be featured on the upcoming Apes No. 1 in April, followed by Alien No. 1 and Predator No. 2.
“We’ve had a blast working with C.B. and his team, and as lifelong Marvel comics fans, it’s an honor to be part of such an enduring creative legacy. We think fans will love the fresh takes on these beloved, iconic movies.” – Steve Asbell, president 20th Century Studios
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Film
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century’s upcoming film, has completed filming and is set to be released on May 24, 2024.
Directed by Wes Bal, the film takes place years after the events of the previous trilogy from director Matt Reeves.
In the new film, Ape society has evolved significantly, while humans have devolved into a feral-like existence.
Some apes are unaware of the Moses-like Caesar, while others have twisted his teachings to build an empire.
The Predator and Alien Film
The Predator film Prey, which debuted to critical acclaim last year, is just one example of how 20th Century is expanding its existing franchises.
Additionally, a new Alien film is currently in development under the direction of Fede Álvarez.
